Science at Willmott Park Primary School
Over the previous four years Willmott Park has been lucky to be able to offer to all students a specialised Science program. Each class participates in one 50min session per week with a Science specialist.
During these session students take part in experiments and activities which have been developed to progressively extend students’ knowledge about the topics being covered. We base each session on a hands-on approach to learning, where students learn and are encouraged to predict, observe and reflect upon scientific concepts. Students are challenged to test out scientific theories and to develop a hypothesis of understanding.
During term three, 3rd year RMIT teaching students attend our school to conduct Science lessons as a part of their schooling. They are supported in the classroom by the science specialist and their university lecturer. This is a great program which supports the learning of students at Willmott Park because during each session there are at least 6 teachers. The students plan and implement a program that supports our already comprehensive Science program. We are proud to be able to support future teachers to become confident in the teaching of science.
