Team Update

Thursday 13/9/2007 "First Test Day"

A busy week has been had by all preparing for our first full "real" test day. Although our vehicles have not had their aerodynamics completed yet we were able to get through our test day without incident. With an early start of 6am we hit the "Silhouette" Go Kart track with great enthusiasm. Our test day gave us the ability to also trial some new gear including bike shoes (supplied by The Bike Shed) and gloves (supplied by The One Stop Safety Shop). We also had the first run of our new timing system via two laptops, backed up by the Silhouette "On Track" timing. First up was a ten minute "stint" for all drivers. This gave all participants a chance to become familiar with the track and also get used to the faster corners and longer straights. With this complete we made a quick pedal change to clip pedals, to both vehicles, we were then ready to set some fast times in a fifteen minute stint for all drivers. A visit from Allen, from the Bike Shed, gave us some tips on gearing, pedal strokes and tyres. This information was then relayed to some changes to the vehicles before the final six minute "shoot out" for each driver. This "shoot out" saw some impressive speeds from our drivers. It was great to see that our top ten riders were an even number of girls and boys. With almost 200 kilometres completed for each vehicle, they will be in for some new rubber and gearing changes over the mid term break.
A great day was had by all with a wealth of information gathered. We look forward to our next test day on Wednesday 7th November, when our vehicles will be fully race ready and team members assigned to their teams for Maryborough.

Monday 10/9/2007 "Breaking News"

Our teams have been lucky enough to be selected to compete in a two hour demonstration race on Sunday 21st of October. This demonstration will be conducted in the two hours prior to the Final Stage of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour. The location for this event is "Jayco Herald Sun Tour Final Day Criterium CIrcuit", St Kilda Road Melbourne (adjacent to The Kings Domain). This will be a great chance for our teams to mix with others before Maryborough and a great opportunity for us to show off our sponsors. If you would like to advertise your company on the sides of our vehicles please contact the school as we have various sponsorship packages still available.

Thursday 16/8/2007 "Story so Far"

Our teams have been training hard for the last two months and were very excited to get into our vehicles for the first time two week ago. Although the vehicles are the bare esentials at the moment it has given our tema a chance to get the feel of the vehicles. We have already seen some good speed and are looking forward to adding the shell and roll bars over the next few weeks.

The date has been set for our first training day, Wednesday 12th September. This is a six hour test day where we hope to be running full race gear. This event will be held at Silhouette Karts on the Hume Highway in Somerton. We would like to thank Frank for his kind donations and we encourage all of our students to visit this venue at some time and enjoy Kart racing. For more information on this venue check out http://www.silhouettekarts.com.au/

We are still looking for more sponsors. If you or your company thinks they may be able to assist please contact the School on 03 9305 6639.
